Blogging Goals for 2014

My blogging goals for this year are pretty simple.

  1. Be more consistent.  Right now, there are weeks when I blog every day and there are weeks that I skip entirely.  This year, I want to blog three times per week:  Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Of course, that may have to change when I find a job and have to adapt my writing schedule around my work schedule.
  2. Narrow the focus of my blog.  Right now, it bounces around from Humor to Nostalgia to Divorce to Writing to rants on fanfiction.  I need to decide just exactly what kind of blog I want to write, and stick with that.
  3. Participate more.  There are some great bloggers out there, but I’ve missed out on a lot of them because I get so caught up in my own world.  I need to seek out other writers, comment on their blogs, and learn from them.
  4. Learn.  I have so much to learn about becoming a better blogger and about reaching a bigger audience.
  5. Have fun.  Right now, I have over seven hundred followers.  That’s seven hundred people who want to read what I have to say.  That’s not great compared to some bloggers, but I think it’s pretty awesome for me.  What a tremendous opportunity to reach out and make people laugh or cry or just go “huh”!

And so, to all of my fellow bloggers out there, I wish you a Happy New Year and Happy Blogging!  What are some of your goals for 2014?

  1. I find participating more has become difficult, especially as I get more followers. I have about the same number as you and I feel guilty when I neglect long time followers for new ones, and then I feel bad if I don’t get to check out new blogs because I try to catch up on old favorites. Geez…Lol. Good luck to you though!

    • Don, our blogs seemed to be growing at about the same pace. Although I freely admit that yours is so much funnier than mine. When do we get to see part 2 of your college Spiderman adventures?

  2. I know what you mean about it taking so much time to catch up on so many great blogs. It’s time-consuming, but such fun. Happy 2014!!

  3. AJ. My opinion is this. It is all about the interactions. I believe people don’t follow blogs. The follow bloggers. I like the people I follow and I follow a damn sight fewer people than those that follow me. I like not knowing what to expect from you but I too need to be more adamant about reading the bloggers I love such as yourself. You are awesome and if you keep going the way you have been I will be no lees satisfied. I am looking forward to a great year with you.

  4. Well, if you’re planning to narrow your approach AND write three days per week, you could designate each day for a different topic – Divorce on Mondays, Humor/Nostalgia on Wednesdays … And I’m with @Iamtomnardone – I’m more about the bloggers than the blogs. Except of course that mine is a food blog, so I read other food blogs for recipe inspiration, but the ones that I’m really attracted to are the ones where I feel a connection to the writer. That’s what I go back for. Having a bazillion followers because you held a giveaway and they signed on as an entry is a hollow victory if you ask me. Don’t sweat the numbers, just do what feels right. :)

  5. I think you’ve got some good goals here. And 700 followers is really freaking good. I don’t have anything close to that. Are you in the Bloppy Bloggers? Great group, very helpful.

    • No, I’ll have to learn more about Bloppy Bloggers. I’ve been having a lot of fun with your Finish the Sentence Friday group, though. Thanks again for letting me be part of it!
